🏈 Good Morning, Auburn Family! In front of 88,000+ fans, Auburn honored legend Cam Newton with a halftime ceremony celebrating his lasting impact on the program. The Tigers are focused and ready to take on Missouri this Saturday, continuing their push through a challenging stretch of Top-20 opponents.

We’re heading into Saturday’s showdown against Missouri with full confidence in what this Auburn program has become. This is more than a game — it’s a chance to prove the foundation we’re building is real. We believe in our players, in our staff, and in the relentless work we’ve put in. Missouri will bring a challenge, but we’re ready to set the tone. Auburn isn’t here to compete — we’re here to win.

War Eagle! — Head Coach Hugh Freeze

This week’s theme is “The Ripple Effect.” In Chase the Lion, we’re reminded that our actions—our “one encounters”—create ripples that reach far beyond the moment. In 2 Samuel 23:8, Josheb-Basshebeth, one of David’s mighty men, faced 800 enemies in a single encounter and stood his ground with courage and conviction. That one moment became part of a legacy that still inspires us today. The same is true for us. Every snap, every block, every act of selfless effort can become a ripple that defines this team and impacts everyone around us. There’s no story without conflict, and no victory without challenge. So this week, let’s play our part—fight for one another, show kindness in our leadership, and embrace the battles that reveal our character. Because here in Auburn, every play is an opportunity to create our ripple effect that will echo long after the final whistle.

🟠 Close Fall. A costly and controversial goal-line fumble proved pivotal Saturday in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, helping No. 10 Georgia defeat Auburn 20-10 at Jordan-Hare Stadium in front of a program-record 18th consecutive sellout crowd. Despite a strong defensive performance and an incredible atmosphere, Auburn came up just short.

Jackson Arnold rushed for a touchdown and passed for 137 yards. Eric Singleton Jr. extended his catch streak to 30 games. Xavier Atkins led Auburn with eight tackles, and both Elijah Melendez and Robert Woodyard Jr. recorded sacks.

🟠 Making A Name. Freshman linebacker Elijah Melendez earned a spot on the On3 2025 Midseason True Freshman All-American Team. In Auburn’s game vs. Georgia, he tallied a season-high six tackles, including five solo stops, with a sack and 2.0 tackles for loss. He ranks fourth on the team in SEC play with 10 tackles and has totaled 17 tackles, 3.0 TFL, and a sack on the season.

🟠 No. 2. Auburn honored the legacy of Cam Newton at halftime of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry with an unforgettable ceremony and light show in front of 88,000+ fans.

Newton recalls his first Auburn night game—five years prior to stepping on the field as a Tiger—as the spark that launched his journey from high school standout to Heisman Trophy winner and NFL MVP:

“Auburn was the first place that gave me that desire. They’re celebrating these athletes like gladiators. To hear the celebration, to hear the roar, to see a bald eagle. Not knowing any of the chants. It’s like an earthquake, and I was hooked.”

🟠 Game Seven. Auburn hosts Missouri this Saturday at 6:45pm, closing out a stretch of four consecutive games against AP Top-20 opponents. The Tigers hold a 3-2 all-time record vs. Missouri, including a 1-0 mark at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Auburn is one of eight FBS teams yet to allow more than 24 points this season. On the other side of the ball, the offense has tallied 13 rushing touchdowns through six games, matching its total throughout all of 2024.

🟠 Auburn Made – NFL Week 6 Highlights. K.J. Britt and Jamien Sherwood both recorded 13 tackles this week — tied for 3rd in the NFL. Jamel Dean earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors. All that and more in this week’s NFL rundown.

  • K.J. Britt (LB, Miami Dolphins) — Britt posted a career-high 13 tackles in Miami’s 2-point loss to the Chargers, recording 10 solo stops and 3 assists. Playing 61 snaps, he tied for third in the NFL in tackles for the week and posted a season-best 77.6 run defense grade.

  • Daniel Carlson (K, Las Vegas Raiders) — Carlson went 2-for-2 on field goals, including a 50-yarder, in the Raiders’ 20-10 win over the Titans. He ranks top 10 in the NFL in field goals made this season (11) and is second in Raiders history in career field goals made.

  • Jamel Dean (CB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers) — Dean posted his first career sack while forcing a fumble and recording his second interception of the season, helping the Bucs to a 5-1 start with a win over the 49ers. He leads NFL corners with a PFF overall grade of 90.1, pass rush grade of 99.6, and coverage grade of 80.9, all career highs. He is the only NFL cornerback to record a strip sack and an interception in the same game this season.

  • Jamien Sherwood (LB, New York Jets) — Sherwood led the Jets in tackles for the fifth straight week, matching a season high with 13 tackles vs. the Broncos in London. He ranks tied for third in the NFL in total tackles (60) and posted a career-best 87.1 run defense grade, ranking seventh among NFL linebackers.

🟠 Remembering A Legend. Auburn lost a legend with the passing of Rudi Johnson on Sept. 23. Johnson’s 2000 season was one for the ages: SEC Player of the Year, 1,567 rushing yards, 13 touchdowns, and an SEC Western Division title. He also set a program record by reaching the 100-yard mark in 10 of Auburn’s 13 games.

Known for his selflessness and leadership, Johnson’s teammates remember him as “one of the best teammates I ever had,” always putting team success above his own.

🟠 A Super Bowl XLI champion with the Indianapolis Colts, Safeties Coach T.J. Rushing brings NFL experience and elite-level development to Auburn’s secondary. Promoted to safeties coach after serving as an assistant to Hugh Freeze last season, he emphasizes fundamentals, attention to detail, and maximizing players’ potential on and off the field.

Rushing brings energy and cohesion to a veteran and freshman-loaded group this season, guiding players like Eric Winters, who was tabbed as the Highest-Graded True Freshman Safety this season per Pro Football Focus (PFF). From his hometown of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Stanford and the NFL, to his home now in Auburn, Rushing’s career blends experience, passion, and leadership.

“Maximize their potential on and off the football field. That’s what you hope for, that they grow, and that on the football field we’re a dominant force.”

Safeties Coach T.J. Rushing

🟠 Battle Tested. Auburn kicker Alex McPherson is this week’s nominee for the 2025 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award! He overcame Crohn’s disease and a major surgery to return to kicking for the Tigers. Despite significant weight loss and a stoma, McPherson has been perfect on field goals and extra points this season. The Courage Award, presented by the FWAA, recognizes players who display courage on or off the field.

🟠 Win In The Trenches. Auburn’s Offensive Line, led by Coach Jake Thornton, are earning high praise this season. The group’s four returning starters—Connor Lew, Izavion Miller, Dillon Wade, and Jeremiah Wright—account for 111 career starts, including 88 at Auburn, providing experience and continuity for the Tigers’ front line.
